The MDP calls itself "a coalition of patients, families and leaders in the fields of vision and aging." They have an extensive website devoted to AMD-- age-related macular degeneration. You can find out about the different types of AMD, the anatomy of eye, and examples of what a person with AMD see. There is also information about the risk factors involved in AMD, both those that are uncontrolled and those that are controllable.
You also can learn what steps you can take to reduce your risk of contracting AMD, especially if you are a member of the "Macular Generation" (sixty years or older). Basically what they say is to be healthy-- stop smoking, control high blood pressure, eat healthy meals, and protect your eyes from ultraviolet rays. There is extensive detail on the relationship of nutrition and AMD.
Other features of this website include information on testing, treatments, low vision aids, research and experimental treatments, related websites, a monthly newsletter, and a glossary of AMD terms. They don't list an email address, but they do have a contact form on the website that you can fill out. They also have a toll-free help line which has recorded information available 24 hours a day: (888) 430-9898.
